Rob had asked what is the differance between a tax rate and table. A tax rate is a simple rate applied to everything taxable as where a tax table is a scalable tax applied at different dollar amounts. Like maybe the first 5 dollars is taxed at a certail amount but after that it drops. I have been in the register biz now for twenty years and I have never ever had the reason to program a table. Only have programmed flat rates and I have shipped registers all over the country, but they must use it somewhere!

To program the tax on a 2386s I think is

Pgm position with key
241 . @ 1 @ xx.xxx Subtotal 1 cash

But that is from memory. Please follow at you own risk! I know it is very close to that is it is wrong.

Sorry I just don't have a manual for that machine handy

Ali, yes you need a service key and you can do a master reset. That will wipe out all the machine's memory back to the factory defaults. Service keys do not come with machines. You may want a service manual as well however I think I have one of those posted for free at http://www.cashregisterguys.com

You can also call us and but a service key.

Aaron, well that is quite a list.
A. If the PO button is there but won't work there can be many reasons. But a quick easy one is pull the top off and make sutre it is a live switch. Sometimes people will kill a button by pulling the stem
B. Probably missing a step
C. I've never used the training mode. It may be turned off in the service mode?
D. Not much to change in the Validation? Are your trying to turn it off? In what way do you want to change it?
